JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assignedsupervisor, this position ensures the proper care of the UTHSC colony ofrecombinant inbred mice and its parental strains for campus, nationwide, andinternational distribution.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Formulates, acquires, assesses, and maintains a mouse colony, which includes weaning, tagging, and breeding available BXD strains/parental strains and breeding new BXD strains.
2. Manages shipments of mice to investigators both on and off campus.
3. Edits/maintains databases in Filmmaker Pro and Excel for the shipment/breeding of mice.
4. Collects tissue and organ harvest from BXD mice and other inbred mice.
5. Attains feces, blood, and urine of mice.
6. Oversees intraperitoneal (I.P.) injections in mice for several projects within the department.
7. Conducts routine administrative functions to ensure the care of laboratory animals and equipment as required by the Laboratory Animal Care Unit and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
