Senior Laboratory Animal Technician (Regular Part-Time)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Observes, cares for research animals. Documents census and observations. Monitors and documents environmental parameters in animal rooms. Conducts inventory checks including, but not limited to feed, bedding and pharmaceuticals. Receives animal and feed/bedding shipments (must be able to lift 50 pounds). Performs routine handling and restraint of research animals. Administers drugs and treatments and collects biological samples as prescribed by Veterinary Staff (Topical, PO, IM, SQ, IV, ID). Cleans and sanitizes cages, animal rooms, and related equipment. Under direction of the Attending Veterinarian and/or Vivarium Manager, performs diagnostic and technical procedures. Calculate drug dosages and administration frequencies and maintain accurate medical records. Identify and communicate signs of abnormal health and behavior in multiple species. Oversees and monitors the in-house sentinel program. Operate complex laboratory equipment required for this position. Assists investigators with handling, restraint and technical procedures such as maintaining breeding colonies, transgenic research and/or biohazard studies. Attends continuing education meetings. Oversees animal care staff and coordinates work schedules under the supervision of the Vivarium Manager. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience Associates Degree in Animal Science or related field. AALAS certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician. May substitute relevant work experience in place of degree on a year-for-year basis.
