Maintains a central store of office supplies and non-inventory equipment for all University departments and custodial supplies for performance of custodial functions for the University.; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate Responsibilities: -30% Laboratory Specimens, Equipment Maintenance and Material Safety Data Sheets: Preserved laboratory specimens must be checked and additional preservative material added to maintain expensive inventory. Files must be maintained for repair manuals for major equipment items. Routine maintenance of mimeograph machine. Maintain a file of Material Safety Data Sheet to comply with state and federal regulations. Routine maintenance of departmental computers such as hardware and software upgrade. Additionally, troubleshoot problems with operating systems and programs used in conjunction with them. Assist professors with projects that must be constructed, maintained, or both. Setup freshman labs for Animal and Plant Biology on a weekly basis. -20% Ordering: Order laboratory supplies and maintain a database on consumable laboratory inventory. Consumable supplies of preserved specimens have to be carefully monitored and replenished. This involves a large amount of preserved specimens used by the approximately 800 students enrolled each semester in freshman Biology Laboratories and approximately 40 students enrolled each semester in Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. Live specimens (frogs, salamanders, and turtles) must be ordered to arrive on specific dates for use in upper-level Histology and Animal Physiology Laboratories. Order laboratory supplies of a more permanent basis including items from prepared microscope slides and microscopes to larger and more expensive equipment such as incubators and computer equipment. This equipment must be inspected as it arrives, recorded on a database, file and prepare paperwork, and direct all supplies to the proper professor and laboratory.
-20% Inventory: All supplies (including chemicals) and equipment must be inventoried on a yearly basis and the report submitted to the Department Head. This involves keeping up with equipment as it arrives, entering it on a database, and updating consumable supplies.
-20% Accounting: - Initiate computer setup for accounts for course fees and laboratory fees. This will involve detailed database setup for course fees and laboratory fees on individual courses. Equipment and consumable supplies must be ordered from the proper account setup for that particular course or laboratory. This will involve considerable computer skill and the ability to keep up with inventory and supplies. A report will need to be furnished to the Department Head at his request.
-5% Laboratory Manual Preparation and Inventory: Laboratory manuals for Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Microbiology, Heredity, Invertebrate Zoology and Essential Elements of Biology must be produced. For Animal Biology and Plant Biology, 1000 of the manuals must be produced at a time. This includes editing, reproduction of the pages, collating, punching and binding. This involves order supplies of paper, binders and covers and keeping a stock of manuals supplied to Central Receiving so that they are able to fill orders from the campus store and another bookstore who sell the manuals. Inventory and accounting procedures must be maintained on these manuals.
-5% Care of Laboratory Animals: Feeding and cleaning cages of laboratory animals (rats and mice) as needed. Acquire food and bedding materials for animals as needed. For all duties carried out by this position a knowledge of biology is essential. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: -High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. -Three years of related experience in warehousing and maintaining inventory, including related supervisory experience.
