Lab Animal Care Technician
Northern Kentucky University
Purpose of Position: Serves as manager of NKU's laboratory animal housing and general procedural facilities, and is responsible for laboratory animal care and housing, and facilities operations. Is crucial to ensuring the humane, responsible, and scientifically or instructionally sound use of animals at the University in accordance with all University, state and federal regulations related to laboratory animal use and care. Primary Responsibilities : Must have the ability to: Coordinate animal care and husbandry, including BSL-2 procedures. Clean and maintain animal facility and equipment. Communicate with supervisors, faculty, staff, and students. Train faculty, staff, and students on proper equipment use and facility operation. Order and receive shipments. Keep timely records. Qualifications : High School Diploma/GED with 3 years' experience, preferably experience working with animals or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs is required. Work hours will occasionally include some weekends and holidays. Must also respond to after-hour emergency calls when necessary.
