Position Summary
One research technician position is open in the Papouin lab, in the Department of Neuroscience at Washington University in St Louis, School of Medicine to support the lab research program on the role of astroglial cells in the mammalian brain. The main duty is to monitor and maintain the lab mouse colony and act as a primary liaison between the Papouin lab and caretakers/veterinarians.
The successful candidate will join an inclusive and dynamic team led by a junior PI to study the role of astrocytes in information processing in the mammalian brain at the cellular, circuit and behavioral levels. The Papouin lab offers a vibrant and productive environment and enjoys a new, custom-designed laboratory space.
This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
- Manages mouse colony, including breeding, weaning and genotyping.
- Monitors mouse colony and performs small animal procedures.
- Maintains files on mouse colony and assists with data entry. Updates database daily.
- Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree, AALAS certification (ALAT) and one year of experience in a laboratory setting with animal care.
- Experience in handling laboratory animals.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Highly conscientious attitude and concern for quality and great attention to details.
- Ability to follow Standard Operation Procedures and communicate with superior.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Salary Range
$15.30 - $20.48 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
