Laboratory Safety Specialist with an emphasis on biological research supports the safety, industrial hygiene and environmental management programs in laboratories, research and education centers, and animal facilities on campus. Key activities are to review, evaluate, and analyze laboratory work environments and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents, or ergonomic factors. Conducts inspections and consultations in laboratories, animal facilities, and greenhouses. Performs laboratory checkouts, laboratory commissioning and decommissioning, evaluation of controls (e.g. biosafety cabinets, etc.) incident assessments, training, and other tasks as assigned.
