The Mannheimer Foundation, Inc. invites applications from veterinary graduates for our one-year clinical internship program in the medicine and management of nonhuman primates. Established more than 10 years ago, our educational program includes:

1. Practical training in nonhuman primate clinical medicine and pathology, primarily focused in macaques and baboons.

2. Formal coursework: lectures include laws and ethics, taxonomy, clinical techniques and therapeutics, diseases by body system, nutrition, behavior and colony management, facility operations and administration, as well as animal models and research techniques.

3. Research experience: interns are involved in research support activities and mentored through an intern-driven project intended to lead to first author publication.

The Foundation is an AAALAC accredited institution with two sites, the main facility located in Homestead, just South of Miami, and a sister facility (Haman Ranch) located 35 miles East of Fort Myers and 60 miles West of Palm Beach, Florida. Animals at both facilities are housed outdoors year-round in social groups, and in a variety of innovative cage designs. Between our two sites, the Foundation houses nearly 4,000 nonhuman primates (including Rhesus and Cynomolgus macaques, as well as Hamadryas baboons). 

The successful candidate will rotate through both locations, and join a strong team of clinical veterinarians and veterinary technicians/assistants who provide veterinary medical care for our breeding colonies. This includes animal health surveillance, surgery, research support, colony management, enrichment and participation in IACUC activities. 

Qualified candidates must have a veterinary degree from an AVMA recognized/accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
