Background and Job Summary: Element Research Group (ERG) is a PreClincal Contract Research Organization specializing in functional and performance testing of medical devices throughout all therapeutic areas. 

This type of testing can include proof-of-concept, feasibility, demonstrating efficacy though subjective assessment or though statistically powered hypotheses, and demonstrating safety of a particular device or therapy.  These tests are often custom designed based on the experience of investigators, available literature, and specific goals for the study. 

The Clinical Veterinarian position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day veterinary care of research animals within the facility.  This includes oversight of husbandry/animal care activities, preventative and post-operative patient management, assist in developing study specific peri-operative protocols with regard to animal health, developing animal wellness summaries/reports, and ensuring the proper and humane care of research animals.

Job requirements:

Education/Experience:

• A doctorate degree in veterinary medicine (DVM or equivalent); and
• MN Veterinary Medicine license; and
• Experience in laboratory animal medicine

Technical Experience/Knowledge:

• In depth knowledge of the AWA and regulatory guidelines
• Ability to communicate effectively with scientists, animal care/husbandry staff, and healthcare professionals

Job Duties:

• Ensure proper humane care of research animals
• Take direction from Attending Veterinarian oversight of animal care program
• Ability to participate in IACUC, including proposal review and surveillance
• Participate in large animal surgeries as needed
• Project planning to include scheduling of resources
• Communicate with team members and collaborators with regard to animal care plans
• Develop animal care assessment and treatment planning
• Independently write animal wellness reports with stated protocol objectives in mind
• Assorted delegated tasks
