Laboratory Summary

The Cancer Immunology laboratory in Keck School of Medicine, USC, is mainly focused on immunology and cancer immunotherapy with over 30 years of research experiences. We are studying how gut microbiota control the immune system to protect the host from cancer development. We also investigate to develop cancer immunotherapy through targeting cancer antigens. The successful applicant will have the opportunities to learn and acquire specific skills and experiences in the fields of microbiology, immunology, and cancers.

Description of Job

Under limited supervision, the Research Laboratory Technician is responsible for the collection, classification, and filing of scientific data. The Technician will also learn and assist to perform some basic molecular biology and immunology techniques. Laboratory Animal duties include setting up breeding pairs, tail snipping, genotyping by PCR. Other duties and/or tasks include but are not limited to preparing solutions, and maintaining laboratory supplies. 

Responsibilities Include:

• Maintains required records, reports and statistics as directed.
• Prepares simple stains, solutions, culture media, and may process tissue following established procedures.
• Trains and assists research aides and assistant in procedures and use of equipment.
• Receives, distributes and maintains supply inventories in laboratories as needed
• Handles the lab animals, performs genotyping by PCR, and maintains the strains.
• Assists in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Experience :

• With Associate's degree, one year of required experience; or with Bachelor's degree, no experience.
• Preferred: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data. Working experience with animals.

Preferred Field of Expertise: Preferred: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data. Working experience with animals.
