The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) is seeking an Animal Resources Supervisor to join our Animal Resources Center (ARC) to provide supervision for daily scheduling of animal husbandry operations. The ARC provides a comprehensive program of veterinary care, animal husbandry, technical advice and assistance and facilities to advance research involving animals on the UTMB campus. The ARC is fully AAALAC International accredited, PHS assured and USDA approved. It comprises eight campus facilities with approximately 108,000 square feet of assignable space. Housing and care are provided for all common research species from amphibians and rodents to primates, sheep and swine. Biocontainment housing is available up to animal biosafety level 4 (ABSL 4). JOB SUMMARY: To provide supervision for daily scheduling of animal husbandry operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Provides oversight for daily animal care operations
• Prepares schedules of normal animal husbandry.
• Reviews all assigned animal housing sites for deficiencies and ensures correction of procedure, equipment and policies as it pertains to husbandry.
• Participates in training responsibilities.
• Assists in expediting planned research.
• Adheres to internal controls established for department.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: High school or equivalent; 5 years related experience and LAT certified.
EQUIPMENT: Support equipment used in a laboratory animal science multi-species facility and standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION: Standard animal resources environment. Must not be allergic to animal dander, or have immunodeficiency diseases. Pregnancy may become a personnel safety factor in some laboratory animal science duties. Potential exposure to radiation and biohazards.
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience.
