The Columbia Center for Translational Immunology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking a highly motivated and talented technician to join our team. The main topic of this research is the understanding of the immunobiology associated with various transplant outcomes. The technician will assist laboratory members in the conduct of experiments as directed by the Principle Investigator.
Responsibilities
Support experiments in a variety of techniques including flow cytometry, cell culture, PCR and immunohistochemistry, under the supervision of the PI or lab staff.
Obtain blood samples from research animals for lab members.
Assist lab members in surgical or non-surgical procedures, including thymectomy, implantation of thymic tissues or islet or beta cells, isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells, isolation of human CD34+ cells from cord blood or fetal liver, processing of human or pig fetal tissues, preparation of flow cytometry samples, etc.
Manage antibody inventory and dispense antibodies to lab members
Maintain a detailed, up-to-date, and accurate record of samples, reagents, and instrument tuning and QC.
Assist with data analysis and in the development of new assays, methods, and reagents.
Assist with ordering of supplies and inventory maintenance of the lab.
Contribute to building a culture that embraces scientific excellence, integrity, efficiency, teamwork, and continuous learning and improvement.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Detail oriented with ability to multitask
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Self-motivated and able to work well under pressure
Other Requirements
Participation in the medical surveillance program
Work with laboratory animals
Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
