Department Overview

The Nolz lab is currently seeking an experienced Senior Research Assistant (SRA) to investigate the mechanisms controlling the activation, differentiation, and function of T cells in vivo. The primary responsibilities of the SRA will be to perform experiments and assist in data analysis and publication of results. Prior experience in a research laboratory and knowledge of cellular and molecular immunology is required. Previous experience using immunology and virology related techniques and flow cytometry is highly desirable. The SRA must be able to work with laboratory mice as well as with various mouse pathogens (viruses, bacteria, and parasites). Most importantly, the successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional organizational and communication skills, be highly motivated, and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Function/Duties of Position

• Independently design and perform experiments analyzing the immune response against viral skin infection
• Acquire and analyze flow cytometry data with limited supervision
• Assist with the preparation of grants and manuscripts. This includes some technical writing and the generation of data figures
• Perform genotyping of animals by PCR and/or flow cytometry

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's in relevant field AND 1 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 or more years of working in a lab
• Proficiency in mouse handling.
• Experience with flow cytometry and other immunology-related laboratory techniques.

Additional Details

• Additional safety training will be required to work with cell lines/ infectious bacteria or viruses/ working with in a BSL-2 environment.
• Working with laboratory animals is required.
• Will perform work sitting at a lab bench.
• Some standing required--for up to 2 hours at a time.
