The Laboratory Animal Medicine Service (LAMS) supports and facilitates research and teaching with animals at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. To do this, LAMS develops and implements a high-quality program of animal care and use to enable the teaching and research activities of the school. This program is characterized by a high level of client service, strong veterinary expertise, effective technical service delivery, quality animal housing and care for many species, compliance with federal and state regulations and maintenance of AAALAC accreditation.
What You'll Do
Provide medical and surgical/anesthesia and postoperative care.
Perform animal health rounds and administer treatments as prescribed.
Oversee and perform routine sentinel testing in facility.
Assist with operation of surgical suites, equipment and supplies including controlled and non-controlled pharmaceuticals.
Support animal teaching laboratories for DVM and graduate students.
Support training sessions for investigative staff (PIs, research technicians, post-doctoral fellows, Ph.D. students and visiting scientists).
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
2 years experience in clinical veterinary practice or laboratory animal research
AA/AS degree in Veterinary Technology or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification by one or more of the following: American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at LAT or LATg level or American Academy of Surgical Research at SRA or SRT levels or Certified Veterinary Technician.
Competent with specialized research equipment and methods including anesthesia equipment, aseptic surgical tecniques, biological safety cabinets, laminar flow hoods, autoclaves, cagewashers and rackwashers, fogging/decontamination equipment and other heavy equipment relating to the farm operations (forklifts, bobcats, manual hoist).
Experience with rodent technical services and study management
Familiar with animal research regulatory requirements (IACUC, USDA, AAALAC)
Working knowledge of common office software and ability to learn specialized applications.
Pay Range
Minimum $23.40, Midpoint $28.08, Maximum $32.75
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
