The Research Associate will assist Dr. Worku in ongoing research focused on understanding basic molecular mechanisms underlying inflammatory responses in ruminants cattle, sheep and goats.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Animal Genomic Diversity and Biotechnology laboratory is one of our primary areas that strongly affects our undergraduate programs in Animal Science and Laboratory Animal Science; and the graduate programs in the School of Agriculture as well as collaborative research within the university, UNC System and other universities within the United States.

Requirements:
Master's degree in the biological or Physical sciences preferred or foreign equivalent, with background in Animal Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; working experience in research laboratories; ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing and verbally to all levels of staff, management and external agencies and to contribute to preparation of peer-reviewed publications in this field of study is also required.
Preferred:
Master's degree or foreign equivalent, with background in Animal Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; 2) working experience in research laboratories; 3) supervisory/management experience; 4) ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing and verbally to all levels of staff, management and external agencies and to contribute to preparation of peer-reviewed publications in this field of study is also required. Minimum 5 years of experience working in a laboratory conducting molecular biology research. Experience collecting samples from cows, goats and sheep and processing and analysis of inflammatory molecules is a bonus. Experience with microscopy, real time PCR and animal sampling is important. Experience in independent research, writing, and publication. Demonstrated interest in understanding. Exceptional molecular and aseptic skills required. Strong communication skills, a service based orientation, and prior managerial experience with a university research laboratory desired.
