Under the supervision of the responsible veterinarian, the Staff Research Associate II (SRA II), provides basic veterinary assessment and care of rodents and other species to facilitate the daily operations of the animal health and welfare, and research support programs of the Laboratory Animal Resource Center. The individual performs the daily para-veterinary health care procedures and research services in the lab animal setting. This position requires ability to maintain a great degree of confidentiality. This position exist because we are replacing personnel.

Duties include but are not limited to:

* Conduct animal health surveillance for rodents and other species as assigned
* Communicate lab and health information to researchers
* Support website function
* Understand and participate in rodent sentinel health or similar programs
* Draft SOP's
* Provide training to Lab or LARC staff.
* Understand and perform necropsy techniques and other diagnostic or clinical diagnostic techniques
* Understand and perform administrative tasks as needed by LARC
* Generally assist LARC's animal health and rodent health programs and support LARC veterinarians and UCSF research projects.

The job includes the ability to lift 30 pounds; standing, walking, bending, and stooping at regular intervals, and working with animals of various sizes for periods of up to 4-5 hours.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
