We are seeking a Supervisor to join our Insourcing Solutions team at Boston Children's Hospital.

In the Husbandry Supervisor role, you can do that by providing direction and leadership for the daily operations of the facilities; in addition to the health and welfare of the lab animal to ensure the integrity of the research.

What you will do! In the Husbandry Supervisor role, you will outline the job responsibilities of the animal care staff, including Children's Hospital policies, procedures and the daily husbandry assignments of the animal care staff. You will be responsible for assisting in the training of animal care staff in the following: cage changing, microisolator cage changing techniques, room sanitation, autoclave operation, cagewash operations, waste disposal and other husbandry duties as required. In addition, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining animal records including, room logs, health reports, cage card labels, autoclave records, cagewash records, animal census and other records as required as well as supervise direct reports in their efforts to maintain quality performance of departmental and client objectives, including meeting/exceeding departmental standards with respect to animal health and welfare, facilities condition, sanitation levels.
In consultation with the Animal Facility Manager and HR, you will perform personnel actions to include hiring, investigating personnel problems, disciplinary actions and/or terminations, performance appraisals, rewarding and addressing employee concerns. You will actively interact with customers to solve their requests, inquiries and to provide technical assistance; and act as the liaison between the scientific staff and support personnel.
Who are we looking for? A candidate that possesses a B.A./B.S. or equivalent in in Animal Science or related discipline with 2-4 years experience in husbandry in a laboratory animal facility of which 6-12 months in a supervisory role. AALAS certification (ALAT or higher) and the ability to successfully achieve LAT certification within 18 months of hire/promotion required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accept as a satisfactory substitute for the education/experience listed above.
