The Bionetics Corporation is seeking a Production Aide to join our team of research animal care professionals at the National Center for Toxicological Research Center (NCTR) in Jefferson, Arkansas. Bionetics is a national government services contractor specializing in Life Science and Engineering with locations nationwide. The Animal Care Production Aide is responsible for all aspects of animal facility ancillary support, sanitation, and housekeeping, including processing area operations and use of associated sanitation and sterilization machinery. This position will transport animals, animal supplies and diagnostic/environmental samples using a forklift or government/company vehicles. Comprehension of and adherence to standard operating procedures is mandatory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Transport used (dirty or soiled) racks, cages, cage lids, cage feeders, water bottles, flat carts and other associated animal supplies from the area of use to dirty processing areas.
Maintain and operate equipment sanitation and sterilization equipment including rack washers, cage washers, bottle washers and sterilizers.
Load and unload sanitized or sterilized animal supplies and equipment including rack washers, tunnel washers, cage washers, bottle washers, steam kettles and autoclaves.
Transport/transfer animals, animal supplies, animal bedding, laundry, isolators and associated equipment from room to room, area to area, or building to building. Transport/transfer animals to and from NCTR and other facilities, including commercial airport and ground transportation services. Transport of animals may be required outside of normal working hours.
Operate and clean forklifts, vans transportation trucks. Complete general maintenance check and update daily vehicle logs as necessary.
Start up and shut down of equipment stated above and report any perceived malfunction to supervisory personnel.
Properly mix and handle solutions used for a variety of purposes, but primarily for cleaning and sanitation.
Stack and/or transport animal supplies and cleaned equipment from washer, kettles and autoclaves to areas of use or storage.
Perform preventive maintenance (greasing/lubrication) as directed for laboratory equipment, processing area machinery and vehicles on a daily and/or weekly basis as directed.
Maintain acceptable levels of sanitation by sweeping, mopping, dusting and scrubbing animal corridors, animal rooms, processing areas, support labs, shower/change area and office areas on a daily, weekly and quarterly basis. Mopping and scrubbing tasks are accomplished with the assistance of germicidal agents. Use of a face shield, safety glasses and full or half face respirator may be necessary when performing certain types of sanitation procedures.
Maintain loading docks and building perimeters in a neat and orderly fashion.
Enter laboratory data into logbooks and/or Sample Collection Report (SCR) sheets, and onto autoclave charts. Complete daily area assignment sheets as needed or directed.
Decontamination of animal cages and associated equipment which have been exposed to test articles as directed by experimental protocol or NCTR Safety Office.
Receive and distribute feed containers and water bottles received from Diet Preparation. Review delivery sheets against delivered inventory for accuracy.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Production Aide will not do any animal care and handling that will involve direct “hands on” contact with the animals or the collection of scientific data (except in emergency situations). Nothing herein shall preclude a Production Aide from transferring animals, assisting in the euthanizing of animals, or training on tasks required for advancement.
Securing and safeguarding of government and company assets utilized in accomplishing the goals and responsibilities of the Production Aide.
Lifting/Moving Requirements – Minimum of 50 pounds; repetitive lifting/manipulation of up to 15 pounds; applying up to 20 pounds constantly to move/roll objects.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Must have at least a GED or high school diploma.
At least three (3) years of progressive related experience working in an animal laboratory environment.
Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LAT) level required.
Continue training to maintain and build proficiency in techniques in accordance with customer needs and/or requirements.
Possess good organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
Must possess excellent knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations governing Animal Care facilities.
Proficient in MS Office and the ability to learn and work with other databases and applications.
Good knowledge of both spoken and written English.
