This position will be hired at the Staff Research Associate 2 or Staff Research Associate 3 level depending on the experience of the selected candidate. The salary range for the SRA 2 is $27.09 - 43.58/hr and the SRA 3 is $29.85 - $48.00/hr. Placement within the range is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the PI, perform at full operational skill level mouse work and human biosample experiments, including processing of blood samples (whole blood, isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells, plasma) and placental tissue. Perform suspension and imaging mass cytometry, antibody conjugation and titration, flow cytometry (incl. cell sorting), tissue dissection and sectioning, immuno fluorescence analysis, quantitative (real-time) PCR, stereotactic surgery, and chemo- and optogenetics. Perform experiments making technical determination and/or observations related to research projects.
Conduct limited variety of non-standard procedures. Install, operate and maintain laboratory equipment. Participate in animal studies including maintaining a mouse colony, timed mating and pregnancy/estrous cycle tracking, injecting mice, euthanasia and dissecting tissue for analysis. This includes coordination of all research activities in the lab including scheduling and organization of human and mouse studies, finding appropriate protocols and regulation for the experiments. The PI is interested in the maternal immune adaptation to and neuroimmunology of pregnancy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Theoretical knowledge of a life science such as is typically acquired by a Bachelors Degree in a field related to molecular, cellular, and developmental biology and/or appropriate work experience.
Experience in sterile technique.
Ability to handle and work with human tissues and other biohazardous, toxic, and carcinogenic materials and to recognize safety problems. Knowledge of radiation safety and biosafety techniques and practices. Ability to follow established Safety and Biohazardous Material Guidelines.
Superior oral and written communication skills.
Proven skill in the operation and maintenance of various lab equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, autoclaves and electrophoresis equipment.
Experience and organizational skills to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.
Experience in basic human and mouse tissue isolation, processing and biobanking techniques.
Demonstrated experience with flow cytometry techniques.
Proven skill to work with animals, as well as animal and human tissues; tissue trimming and histology analysis, and knowledge in necropsy. Knowledge to care for and handle small lab animals and to administer medications and euthanize small laboratory animals.
Experience in keeping accurate and well-organized lab records, lab notebook and computer data files.
Experience with the operation of a personal computer and software application, such as Access, MS Word and Excel. Knowledge to work with and learn new software for data analysis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with mass cytometry/imaging mass cytometry.
- Enthusiasm to learn new techniques.
- Experience with regulatory compliance methods and paperwork for IRB and IACUC protocols.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $56,564 - $90,995 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $27.09 - $43.58
