The Carney Institute for Brain Science is looking for a Research Assistant to work in the laboratories of 5 research groups (Dr. Diane Lipscombe, Dr. Sonia Mayoral, Dr. Ahmed Abdelfattah, Dr. Christopher Moore, and Dr. Arturo Andrade). This is a highly collaborative group of researchers with shared space and resources. Our laboratories focus on molecular, cellular, and system level mechanisms that regulate nervous system functions in health and in disease models. We utilize mouse genetic animal models and cell cultures to answer our research questions.
The Research Assistant will support activities related to rodent husbandry, tissue culture maintenance, and general lab maintenance. Laboratory maintenance includes ordering, record keeping, ensuring laboratory supplies are readily available to the members of our laboratories. The Research Assistant will work independently among the different research groups. This position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
This is a full time, fixed term position with a current end date of 3/1/2026.
Qualifications
Required: BA or BSc in related field or 1-2 of experience in a research lab setting
Preferred: Course work in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience
Ability to work collaboratively, collegially and professionally
Ability and drive to learn biological experiments in a lab setting
Ability to use computers for data analysis
Willingness to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
Strong organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Some evenings, weekends and holidays may be required for animal care
Additional Information:
This position requires direct contact with laboratory animals.
