The Department of Surgery, Division of Abdominal Transplantation seeks an experienced Laboratory Research Operations Analyst 2 to provide administrative and scientific support for a research program in a laboratory headed by a surgeon-scientist that investigates the immunological responses to solid organ transplantation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily administration and operation of the laboratory. They will also be able to design and execute complex scientific experiments using advanced molecular and cellular techniques and able to analyze and interpret the resulting research data. To assist with the development and implementation of new or revised research methodologies, they will be able to test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods. They will manage laboratory animal (mouse) colonies and perform maintenance duties as required.
They will collaborate with faculty and staff members to further the goals of the research program by establishing standard operating procedures and overseeing the training laboratory staff. Additionally, they will support and coordinate laboratory activities and work assignments of postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff.
They will perform critical analyses of literature relevant to the research being undertaken and assist in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation along with contributing to the writing for project reports and other documents. They will assist the principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain funding in support of the research and will represent the organization when working with funding agencies and developing financial resources and programs.
They will oversee and coordinate periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment. They will manage laboratory supply inventory, initiate the procurement of supplies and equipment, and will track laboratory expenditures and assist with budgeting and financial reporting.
They will monitor and assure safety and compliance with all regulatory requirements including those associated with HIPAA, IRB, IBC, IACUC, and EHS, and they will maintain responsibility of periodic laboratory inspections by internal or external agencies. They will track laboratory expenditures and assist with budgeting and financial reporting. They will perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
A Masters degree in a related biological/health science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Experience
Considerable professional experience and ability to work independently on projects of moderate scope and complexity in a biological/health research capacity is required. Strong ability to translate, adapt, and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of scientific research. Strong ability to problem-solve and trouble shoot scientific and administrative challenges and barriers. Strong ability to take initiative, learn new technologies and methodologies, and remain flexible in the work environment. Experience engaging employees in the workplace through collaboration, accountability, integrity, and respect. This position requires successful completion of a background check, and qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
Desired Experience:
A Doctoral degree in an appropriate biological/health science field is desirable. Knowledge of bioethics and research standards and regulatory requirements is preferred. Interest in learning, or prior experience with, transplant immunobiology is desired. The individual will assist other laboratory scientists with their experiments, and if desired, the individual will be offered opportunity to develop their own independent research project once sufficient knowledge and experience are gained.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and sit and work on computer for long periods of time. Lift supplies up to 20 lbs. Exposure to animal dander. Possible exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous waste. May require some weekend, night, and/or holiday hours.
Essential Duties
