60%: Assists and provides support of research studies as directed; conducts planned research activities using observation, measurement and analytical techniques; performs a variety of behavioral tests in mice and rats; conducts a variety of biochemical analyses; performs data processing and analysis; prepares solutions and reagents for scientific experiments; collects, sorts and processes tissue and blood samples.
20%: Performs routine experimental procedures on laboratory animals including surgical procedures and/or administration of drugs; assists with care of laboratory animals.
10%: Records and consolidates research data; assists with preparation of data and materials for inclusion in research reports, publications and grant applications written by principal investigator; researches current scientific literature on specified topics; assists with instructing research aides, undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures and operation of equipment.
10%: Calibrates various laboratory equipment and operates microscopes, centrifuges and other laboratory equipment; assists with ordering, stocking and maintenance of research supplies; performs general housekeeping of laboratory; other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired
Bachelors degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
