Provide compassionate care for the animals in a medical clinic and field setting.
· Conduct health observations for hospital and colony animals
· Assist veterinarians in all aspects of clinical care including fulfilling treatment plans and medical orders.
· Responsible for catching and chemical restraint of ill or injured animals from group housing.
· Assess and complete treatment of hospitalized animals or animals treated in outdoor enclosures.
· Assist in taking of x-rays, ultrasounds, surgery, and necropsy as directed by the veterinarian.
· Perform laboratory test (i.e. fecal, CBC, Chemistries, blood processing) as directed by the veterinarian.
· Shipment of biological samples
· Maintaining enrichment platforms
· Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized animals.
· Release hospital animals upon completion of treatment as directed by the veterinarian.
· Coordinate animal shipments
· Maintain all hospital areas in a neat and sanitary condition. Assist in cleaning cages and all hospital areas including surgery suite, necropsy, treatment/procedure rooms, neonatal and isolation areas.
· Maintains Pharmacy inventory - restocking treatment/procedure rooms as needed.
· Maintains logbooks for – expired drugs, specimen testing, necropsy, x-ray, controlled drugs, temperatures and equipment checks (e.g. autoclave)
· Participate in physical animal processing including lifting and transport of equipment and supplies, animal handling, lifting and transfer of animals from one enclosure to another, anesthesia, exam, vaccinations, venipuncture, tattooing, TB testing, deworming, micro-chipping, recovery and release
· Communicates with multiple team members, husbandry, veterinary, behavior, processing, maintenance.
· Assist with group introductions
· Familiarization and behavioral work
Other duties may be assigned related to the overall job function and support of the company's mission to provide the very best care for the animals.
Must be capable of lifting 50lbs or more and able to wear N95 respirator working in all weather conditions.
Required PPE is furnished by the company and consists of hair cover, eye protection, face mask or N95 respirator, scrubs, sleeves or jacket, boots, clogs and disposable nitrile gloves.
Math skills and basic computer skills using a relational database and email are required.
Ability to communicate in written and verbal form.
Ability to work independently and as a team under the direction of the veterinarian manager.
