Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IV. This position performs professional-level experiments and research in the Polack Laboratory, Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN), School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N).
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Performs neuroscientific research and analysis in rodents trained on various behavioral tasks in accordance with established procedures
Performs functional imaging, electrophysiological and behavioral experiments, surgical procedures, and behavioral training
Ensures complex, highly specialized, state-of-the-art instrumentation and associated components are properly and safely operated and maintained
Maintains proficiency in all policies, practices, and regulations, and keeps records in accordance with certified laboratory practices and in accordance with all relevant policies and regulations, including, but not limited to, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Lab Animal Care (AALAC), and Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW)
Maintains and keeps the workplace and laboratory organized in a clean and safe manner in accordance with established procedures
Completes work under direct supervision within established work parameters for the lab;
Trains and leads students and technicians on laboratory processes, equipment, and other laboratory-related activities
Prepares technical documentation and reports
Performs work in a manner that furthers the mission of the Polack Laboratory, CMBN, SASN, and RU-N and contributes to strategic goals
Position is grant funded, dependent on adequate external funding
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's (B.A.) degree in a biology, cell biology, molecular biology, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant research experience in a scientific laboratory

Equipment Utilized:
Cell/tissue culture, microscope (bright field and fluorescent), DNA/protein sonicator, centrifuges, pipetter, PCR machines (standard and real-time thermocycler machines), bio-luminometer machine for real-time monitoring of luciferase reporters, gel doc system (BioRad Chemidoc) for documenting protein/DNA data, protein biochemistry apparatuses (for Western-blots, dot-blot and agarose gels), computer, and autoclaving machine. It is not necessary that the successful candidate has prior experience using any of this equipment, they will be trained as needed by the PI and/or senior Lab personal. Knows or will learn the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Laboratory environment involves exposure to common hazards from chemicals and preserved biological samples. Relevant safety procedures are mandatory in the laboratory. Requires institutional bio-safety and IACUC training for safe research using chemicals, biological samples, and mouse research. Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds and operate and maintain sophisticated equipment. There are designated carts and trollies in the laboratory to carry and transport heaving boxes from deliver room, lab supplies in/from washing/autoclaving room, and laboratory equipment
