Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IV.
This position performs professional-level experiments and research in the Krekelberg Vision Studies Laboratory, Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN), School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N). The Krekelberg laboratory conducts research on understanding the neuronal mechanisms of noninvasive brain stimulation using animal models and human subjects research. The Laboratory Researcher IV will assist the research efforts of the lab, primarily with a focus on functional imaging and electrophysiological techniques in mice.
The position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Assisting with setup, performing experiments, and analyzing experimental recordings involving two-photon calcium imaging in mice
Performs animal behavioral training and surgical procedures
Ensures instrumentation and associated components are properly and safely operated and maintained
Maintains proficiency in all policies, practices, and regulations, and keeps records and performs all work in accordance with certified laboratory practices and in accordance with all relevant policies and regulations, including, but not limited to, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Lab Animal Care (AALAC), and Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW)
Maintains and keeps the workplace and laboratory organized in a clean and safe manner in accordance with all established policies and procedures
Prepares technical documentation and reports
The position is grant funded and dependent on adequate external funding.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and certifications and/or relevant experience

Equipment Utilized:
Uses stereotaxic apparatus, isoflurane vaporizer, nanoject microinjector, in vivo two photon microscope, Matlab and knows or will learn all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.

Exposure to common hazards from laboratory chemicals
Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory
Training in laboratory and biohazard safety is mandatory
Participation in occupational health monitoring is mandatory
Must be able to comfortably lift and move 30 pounds
This position involves prolonged standing, walking, and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment
Must demonstrate manual dexterity
Some stooping, reaching, climbing, and bending required
Work week may include infrequent evening and/or weekend work
