NEPHROLOGY AND HYPERTENSION (IN-NEPH-IUINA)

How would you like to assist in finding a cure for kidney disease?

Dr. Kelly studies kidney diseases due to diabetes and ischemia and the consequences of kidney disease on the heart and other organs. Using a wide variety of techniques, including state of the art microscopy and genomics, as well as animal models, the lab seeks to define new treatments to decrease mortality in kidney diseases.

The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension is committed to the research, treatment and prevention of kidney diseases, including acute and chronic renal failure, complications of chronic dialysis treatment, hypertension, and kidney stones and cystic disease.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Helps find a cure for kidney disease
• Performs basic, bench research in a lab using common and novel laboratory techniques

General Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
• Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
• Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
• Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
• Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
• May train junior-level staff
• May help plan experiments or short-term goals

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in science or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

• Experience working with laboratory animals and microscopy (imaging of experimental tissues)

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
