Under the general supervision of Manager and Lead Technician, the incumbent is responsible for performing the routine duties related to operation within the Clean and Soiled Operations areas. This may include operating within both Comparative Medicine facilities (Davis Bldg. and the AHSP). Assignments include operation of and preventive maintenance performance on the rack washers and tunnel washers, steam autoclaves, dry heat sterilizers, bedding dispenser (tunnel washer articulated and stand-alone systems), bedding dump stations (Allentown and BioBUBBLE) and bottle filling station. The incumbent is expected to operate all machinery safely and efficiently and in a manner that meets performance standards. The incumbent must have the ability to communicate in a professional manner and be accountable for daily responsibilities as outlined on daily task sheet. Must efficiently support biocontainment and bioexclusion. Must be attentive to ergonomic risks in the workplace. Performance, Commitment, and Businesslike and Professional Behavior (PCB) standards are required.
Operations Technician I is responsible for general sterile processing services within areas of decontamination, cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distributing medical/surgical equipment and supplies for assigned department(s) and/or service line(s). Operates and maintains equipment but not limited to rack washers, tunnel washers, steam autoclaves, dry heat sterilizers, bedding dispensers, bedding dump stations and bottle filling stations. Support services include assembly, distribution and storage of supplies and equipment as well as retrieval of dirty equipment. Performs forklift operations for sample movement, loading/unloading freight, and daily inspection and maintenance as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Must have thorough working knowledge of rack washer, tunnel washer, autoclave, bottle filler, floor scrubber, and other equipment as directed.
· Maintains and understands clean/soiled equipment and traffic separation according to established SOPs.
· Completes all sanitation and sterilization requirements including all documentation within acceptable and established time frames.
· Completes all work assignments in a safe manner using all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
· Prioritizes workload and plans daily to accommodate animal Husbandry technician cage and equipment change out schedules.
· Uses appropriate temperature and other environmental detection and verification devices to ascertain proper efficiency and cleaning capabilities of equipment.
· Works mainly under direct supervision by Operations Supervisor.
· Prepare clean caging equipment for use.
· Maintain cage washing areas and other assigned work areas (central hallways, storage rooms, etc.) in an organized and sanitary manner.
· Maintains inventory of chemicals use and accessories for all applicable equipment, maintain chemical dilutions for use throughout the vivarium.
· Alerts Supervisor in a timely manner of impending shortages and reorder amounts.
· Assists in unloading, storage, and stocking supplies.
· Notify failures to Supervisor of potential equipment malfunctions within an acceptable time frame.
· Assists in minor repairs and/or alerts Supervisor of equipment malfunction at the time of observation.
· Responsible for staging equipment for Husbandry and Research Lab support
· Responsible for following written and oral instructions (in English), including Standard Operating Procedures, Room Logs, Quality Assurance Logs. Must possess good communication skills.
· Ability to prioritize the continuous flow of soiled equipment to the final organization of clean equipment.
· Support the inflow of all materials to the facilities including; feed, bedding, caging, large equipment and appropriate staging.
· Support all waste outflows including; standard waste, hazardous waste, and the use of the ERGO Lift system.
· Maintain Quality Assurance program for large washers and autoclaves.
· Maintain loading docks in both facilities.
· Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Educational Requirements:
1. High school graduate or GED.
2. Able to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
Licenses:
Valid California Driver's License.
Assistant Laboratory Animal Tech (ALAT)- Preferred
Experience:
Cage Wash/Operations/Animal Lab Experience - Preferred
Physical Demands:
Equipment/Logistics/Operations Technicians bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment.
