Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is seeking a Director of the accredited Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) and Attending Veterinarian to provide the highest quality operational, administrative and technical support to facilitate animal well-being at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, IL. The successful candidate will hold a Research Assistant/Associate Professor faculty appointment in the Department of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology. Responsibilities include maintenance of a high-quality program by providing veterinary clinical, surgical and medical care to the animal population; facilitate developing programs of research; participate in medical and graduate curricula, and meaningful committee service.
- A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited institution;
- Active veterinary license in at least one state with the ability to obtain a license in the state of Illinois within 6-8 months;
- Board eligible by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM);
- Ability to obtain State and Federal controlled substance license/registration within 6 months from the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA);
- Familiarity with current USDA and PHS regulations, and the AAALAC International accreditation process;
- Effective communication skills to develop and maintain relationships and to influence compliance with policies and regulations;
- Demonstrate job related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment;
- Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
