As a Senior Animal Technologist, you will assist the facility manager with the daily operations of a designated unit, overseeing work planning, prioritisation and ensuring animal welfare in production, care and experimentation. You will provide researchers with high-quality animals and actively support research projects, delivering professional and efficient service. Additionally, you will supervise and train both senior and junior team members in animal husbandry, care and welfare.
The Senior Animal Technologist is expected to maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge of new and innovative methodology, equipment, technology, data management and analysis, including implementing changes to practices and training as required.
We are seeking someone with a Diploma of Applied Science (Animal Technology) with subsequent relevant work experience in a laboratory animal facility environment or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training or experience in an animal facility environment. A genuine passion for working with animals and a collaborative work ethic are essential.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Education/Qualifications 1. The appointee will have: ? A Diploma of Animal Technology with subsequent relevant work experience in a laboratory animal facility environment; or ? an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or extensive experience in an animal facility environment. Knowledge and Skills 2. Advanced knowledge, expertise, and extensive practical experience with research animal breeding and husbandry systems, and techniques such as blood collection, injections and euthanasia 3. Knowledge of and the ability to comply with all relevant legislations and regulations including but not limited to: ? Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 Vic and Regulations ? Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes 2013 ? Gene Technology Act 2000 and associated Regulations 4. Demonstrated team leadership and supervisory experience including oversight, direction, and the ability to train in complex animal procedures, provide oversight of adherence with SOPs, ethics and other standards. 5. Optimise operational activities, including excellent organisational skills, ability to set priorities, manage time and monitor team activities to meet required business outputs 6. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, sound decision making and good judgement. 7. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact, liaise positively and gain commitment from a diverse range of colleagues, students and researchers 8. Ability to author and review complex technical material, such as Standard Operating Procedures, to a high standard.
