THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT FUNDED POSITION (20 HOURS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Term Research Technician 2 oversees all aspects of the CITG BXD mouse breeding colony in TriMetis for the Department of Genetics, Genomics and Informatics. This position is also responsible for the care and distribution of recombinant inbred mice and parental strains to collaborators campus-wide, nationwide, and internationally.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops, acquires, evaluates, and maintains the CITG mouse breeding colony in TriMetris.

2. Weans, tags, and breeds over 100 available BXD strains and parental strains.

3. Breeds new BXD strains.

4. Coordinates shipments of mice to investigators both on and off campus.

5. Updates and maintains databases in Filemaker Pro and Excel for the breeding and shipments of mice.

6. Performs routine administrative functions to ensure the care of laboratory animals and equipment as required by LACU and IACUC.

7. Harvests tissues and organs from BXD mice and other inbred mice.

8. Collects feces, blood, and urine of mice.

9. Performs I.P. injections in mice as required for several projects within the department.

10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
