Job Details:
The School of Medicine is searching for a Director of the Animal Care Facility on the Macon, GA campus.
Responsibilities:
The Director of the Animal Care Facility will be responsible for directing all activities within the animal care facility, including working with a staff of two full time animal care workers. This position will be responsible for all reporting requirements associated with IACUC and USDA oversight as well as generation of animal per diem bills. The Director is also responsible for preparing and adhering to the departmental budget as well as complying with all rules associated with possessing a purchasing card including preparing the monthly statement for the finance office. This position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of animal husbandry and for providing appropriate training for those working with animals. The Director will ensure maintenance of and adherence to standard operating procedures and protocols, and will coordinate with the attending veterinarian to ensure animal health and veterinary care. This position will work with limited oversight from the Chair of the Division of Basic Medical Sciences, and will coordinate with other School of Medicine animal facility directors to ensure all operating procedures are congruent between the campuses and provide assistance to other directors as needed.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree and five years of experience that must include working with laboratory animals and experience with animal care and surgery techniques OR a master's degree and three years of the same experience will be considered.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Has experience with laboratory animal husbandry to assure adequate oversight of facility
Has ability to train team members
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare various reports
