The Compliance Specialist will support the Assistant Director of Compliance in the oversight of various compliance areas, including human subjects (IRB), animal subjects (IACUC), IBC, export control, and conflict of interest. The Compliance Specialist will also support the post-award team in fulfilling compliance functions related to closeout of grant awards and subrecipient monitoring.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Works to ensure that the university’s research activities are registered and conducted in compliance with institutional standard operating procedures and federal, state, and local regulations including OHRP, OLAW, USDA, OSHA, and The Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant and Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.
- Attends all IRB and similar meetings. Ensures that all records are secured and properly archived, keeps abreast of changes in regulations, maintains policy documents and SOPs.
- Assists the Post-Award Associate Director in compliance-related activities such as subrecipient monitoring and award closeout processes.
- Assists OSPR with tracking protocol turnaround times, and otherwise generate data and statistics for quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in a research compliance area such as animal subjects (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Human Subjects (Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Biosafety (Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or experience working with animals in a research, teaching environment or related field.

Preferred:
- Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to laboratory animal welfare compliance and institutional biosafety regulations.
- Experience with electronic research administration software such as Kuali.
