The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston), Center for Laboratory Animal Medicine and Care (CLAMC) seeks a highly motivated, proactive, professional laboratory animal veterinarian to join us! The successful candidate will work with the current veterinary staff of 3 clinical vets and 10 veterinary technicians, approximately 39 husbandry staff, other support staff, and the Executive Director. CLAMC staff manage and operate all of the animal care and use facilities at UTHealth Houston (approximately 92,000 sq ft contained within 5 different buildings), train research staff in standard research techniques, and provide medical and surgical care for all animal species with an emphasis on rodent species.
The mission of CLAMC will always be to support the institution’s research endeavors by providing excellent animal care and research support, while contributing to the training of health science professionals involved in the performance of biomedical research using recognized best practices.
Responsibilities:
The clinical veterinarians are responsible for preventative and clinical veterinary care of research animals, animal protocol and amendment review, investigator training, and other duties to ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory organizations. All veterinarians contribute to writing CLAMC and IACUC SOPs and policies.

This is a non-tenure research track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Requirements:
A DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary college or ECFVG/PAVE foreign equivalency certification.
Active veterinary license in at least one U.S. state; must be eligible to acquire a Texas veterinary license if not already licensed in Texas.
Must be eligible for DEA controlled substances registration.
At least two years of recent and relevant experience working as a clinical veterinarian in a laboratory animal program or completion of a laboratory animal residency.
Experience in reviewing animal protocols and amendments is preferred as all veterinarians perform reviews and participate in other regulatory duties.
Current and relevant working knowledge of animal research regulations and guidelines.
Strong interpersonal skills in a team environment with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in computer software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Able to meet the physical requirements of the position (able to lift, squat, kneel, reach overhead, stand on stools, wear appropriate PPE for bioexclusion and biohazard areas).
