The candidate must be accredited and possess an active license (preferably from the State of Illinois). Candidates should be interested in research, specifically in drug discovery and/or infectious disease. Experience in research. Master’s Degree, PhD, or publication record is highly desirable.
Position Description: The successful applicant will report to the Attending Veterinarian and will split their time between providing for the health and welfare of animals in the research colony and research (drug discovery, safety testing, infectious disease including vaccine development). The individual will conduct physical exams, treat animals when necessary, and develop procedures and policies to maximize the welfare of a variety of species, including rodents, rabbits, minipigs, and primates. The person will also serve on the facility IACUC. In research, the individual will oversee preclinical toxicology, safety and efficacy studies to treat human and animal diseases. There is potential for advancement, and depending on interest, there is opportunity to work toward board eligibility in toxicology or in laboratory animal medicine.
