In support of The Ohio State Universitys Research and Innovation activities, the selected candidate will work within Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) supporting the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) mission of providing humane animal care and facilitating biomedical research discoveries.
The selected individual leads and works as part of an animal care team supporting daily operational work and facility compliance for assigned ULAR vivarium facilities; utilizes coaching and employee engagement to maintain a productive and supportive work environment and climate; helps identify when training or re-training of new and current staff is required; sets daily work schedules for team members to ensure facility animal care is completed; approves scheduling changes and timekeeping needs; ensure supplies/equipment are available for assigned facilities; responsible for ensuring census and billing activities are completed; serves as a point of contact regarding operational matters for veterinary and research staff; works with the regional Technologist (T3) as needed to solve operational issues in assigned areas. The Team Leader provides direction and problem solving for issues identified by the team and the Technologist. The Team leader performs a regular facility walk through to ensure regulations are being met, and ULAR SOPs are being followed.
The Team Leader has ultimate responsibility for supply ordering, census, and animal transfers; pre-approval of animal orders as necessary for assigned areas; reviews and submits monthly census billings in assigned area; and coordinates maintenance and facility needs with internal entities. The Team Leader regularly provides coaching and facilitates annual performance reviews of team members; addresses team performance concerns by working with the ULAR administrative team to identify issues and possible solutions, ensuring the personnel are held accountable for performance concerns. Team Leaders work in coordination with other Team Leaders to ensure work continuity across centralized ULAR including shared resources such as equipment and personnel. Team Leaders are responsible for afterhours alarms (water and temperature). Position requires successful completion of a background check and employee health physical.
Required Qualifications: Associates Degree in Animal Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Four (4) years work experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility; one (1) year of supervisory experience. Excellent time management, follow-through, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelors degree with a major in animal science technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience; AALAS certification and six (6) or more years of relevant work experience.

This job opportunity is a team lead technical-level position. The minimum starting rate is $23.94 and the offered rate will depend on the selected candidate's qualifications. ULAR provides additional opportunities to eligible employees to earn extra income based on performance, completion of certifications, reliable attendance, and shift differential pay for weekend work. Working shared weekends and holiday hours required.
