The Rollins College Psychology department is seeking a service-oriented Animal Care Technician to join their team.
Ensure the health of animals, cleanliness of laboratory/procedure rooms, and functionality of equipment (routine maintenance)
Maintain a breeding stock of animals and maintain accurate records
Provide assistance to students in handling animals
Procure (orders and picks up) food and supplies for laboratory animals
Transport animals to veterinarian
Administer medication to animals
Euthanize animals
Maintaining accurate records of numbers and types of animals needed by Departments
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
Elementary school education
Ability to read, write, and follow basic instructions
Possess a valid driver's license, or ability to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
Preferred Qualifications:
At least six months of job-related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures in the care of animals
Ability to handle and provide care to a variety of laboratory animals
Ability to understand and interpret written and oral instructions
Ability to maintain records with a high degree of accuracy
Work Schedule:
The Animal Care Technician role is a full-time 12-month appointment, scheduled to work 28 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:
Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm
*Works holidays, overtime, afternoons, and weekends may be required.
Work Environment:
Works on-campus and in a laboratory.
Work requires physical strain and with the physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Work requires exposure to noise and odors associated with animals.
