ULAR (University Laboratory Animal Resources) is an AAALAC-accredited animal care program that supports the University of California Irvine's research and teaching missions by providing high quality, humane care for vertebrate laboratory animals, in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to the use of animals in research and teaching.
Your Role on the Team
This role involves leading the Embryology service within the Transgenic Mouse Facility (TMF), focusing on mouse assisted reproduction techniques and daily colony management. Responsibilities include performing and assisting with various procedures such as in vitro fertilization, embryo transfers, cryopreservation, microinjection, and embryo harvest. Additionally, tasks involve coordinating cohort production with research labs, testing new techniques under the TMF Managing Director, managing the CLIMB database, communication with investigators, and overseeing packing/shipping logistics. The role also entails supporting TMF mouse colony management, training staff, conducting breeding experiments, and ensuring accurate data entry.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $28.71- $33.67 (Hourly).
Required:
Working knowledge of breeding strategy for ES cells derived and CRISPR-Cas9 modified transgenic mouse lines.
Exceptional organizational skills and extremely detail-oriented
Ability to take direction from PI and senior lab personnel, collaborate, and contribute to discussions of research literature and methodology.
Highly motivated and service-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills with a broad variety of people (clients, researchers, lab personnel, fellow employees) both verbally and in writing.
Ability to assess problems quickly and make sound scientific decisions independently.
Experience in colony management software.
Ability to train and (manage) junior staff members in animal husbandry and embryo handling.
Demonstrated ability to use a computer and software, including project managing softwares (Trello, Slack, Teams, etc).
Experience in zyogote microinjection and electroporation.
Experience in PCR based genotyping workflow.
Bachelor's or an associate degree in animal science, genetics of other closely related field.
A minimum of 2 years of experience managing genetically modified mouse colonies and assisted reproductive procedures (in vitro fertilization, and cryopreservation) in a transgenic mouse production facility.
Special Conditions:
May be required to work on weekends as needed.
