Type: Full-time
Internal Number: SOM-18418
The Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University seeks a laboratory animal veterinarian to join the Department as Assistant or Associate Professor in the University Medical Line. A DVM/VMD degree and ACLAM board certification or board eligibility is required. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience in nonhuman primate medicine. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
The successful applicant should have experience in nonhuman primate clinical care, including medical management, anesthesia, and surgery. Experience in clinical and/or research support for neuroscience models is highly desirable. Experience with, or the desire to learn about, the clinical care of other common research species such as swine, sheep, rodents, and aquatics is preferred. Supervision of veterinary nursing staff, veterinary residents and masters student trainees is expected. Applicants for this position should therefore have a strong interest in training and mentoring veterinary residents, and teaching a diverse group of learners: researchers, graduate, undergraduate and postdoctoral trainees. There are ample opportunities for collaborative, translational research.
The Department of Comparative Medicine has faculty who are basic and clinical research scientists and who are board-certified in laboratory animal medicine, veterinary anesthesia and analgesia, veterinary pathology and internal medicine. The department hosts an ACLAM-recognized residency training program, a master’s degree program in Laboratory Animal Science, and maintains a robust undergraduate teaching program in translational sciences and comparative medicine. In addition to its academic functions, the department also provides oversight of Stanford’s AAALAC-accredited animal research program.
Applications will be reviewed beginning June 15th and accepted until the position is filled.
Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Stanford also welcomes applications from others who would bring additional dimensions to the University’s research, teaching and clinical missions.
The university’s central functions of research and education depend on freedom of thought, and expression. The Department of Comparative Medicine, School of Medicine, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an open and respectful academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and perspectives. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work and experience will further these values.
To apply, please submit: a curriculum vitae (CV), a brief letter (statement of clinical experience, research and/or scholarly activity, and teaching accomplishments including future plans in these areas). You will also be expected to provide the names and email addresses of 3 references in the application. All materials should be submitted online at https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/en-us/job/494846
The expected base pay range for this position is:
Assistant Professor: $230,000 – $254,000
Associate Professor: $262,000 – $306,000
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs. For more information about compensation and our wide-range of benefits, including housing assistance, please contact the hiring department.
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
