Vivarium Safety Officer
The Vivarium Safety Officer assists the Campus Biosafety Officer (BSO) in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive Safety Program designed to support and facilitate animal research while protecting people and the environment from the potential adverse effects of animal research involving use of biohazardous materials, hazardous chemicals, radioactive isotopes, etc.As a member of the Institutional Animal Care Use Program (IACUC), the Vivarium Safety Officer attends IACUC meetings to review protocols, evaluates use of hazardous biological, chemical, and radioactive materials in animals, and ensures laboratories have approved authorizations for use of biological, chemical radioactive materials, and controlled substances in animals.
