Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSELeads a team that interfaces with the Associate Deans for Research and research administration support staff across the campus to identify and implement strategies to sustain and expand the research and technology development ecosystem at Wayne State University. This position will report directly to the Vice President for Research.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSupervise research development staff in the different schools and colleges that are supported by the Vice President for Research. Research and creativity activities involve all programs on campus including the humanities and fine and performing arts to biomedicine, health care delivery, analytics and systems engineering. Identify and nurture large programmatic funding initiatives that synergize strengths across different colleges, departments and strategic partners. Work with Principal Investigators to support the development and submission of such programmatic proposals. Work closely with research teams in the Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio) for programmatic development, along with the Vice President for Research to develop strategies for further expansion of IBio programs. Coordinate and expand ongoing activities within the Office of the Vice President for Research. Broaden awareness of funding opportunities across federal agencies.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONDoctorate Degree or other doctorate level degree in the biomedical research field, and professional senior-level experience.EXPERIENCEPreferred level of experience is 10-15 years, along with same years of progressive experience and leadership or administrative positions in the field of scientific research, and grant and program management.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESStrategic ThinkingAbility to work with executive leadership to establish strategic plans, organizational policies and priorities. Management SkillsAbility to lead, plan, direct and coordinate successful research programs by working with individual investigators, having knowledge of Federal or other comparable scientific grants programs and regulations governing protection of human subjects in research, the humane care and use of laboratory animals in research, intellectual property, and knowledge and/or experience of key issues facing Institutions or researches.CommunicationAbility to work effectively with staff in areas such as: Brain and Behavioral Health; Bio & Systems Engineering; Interface of Genes, Ethnicity, Environment and Health; Metabolic Diseases (Diabetes and Obesity); and Urban Health Equity, which includes implementation sciences cutting across departments, programs, programs, centers and colleges. Coalition BuildingAbility to establish and lead effective communication and outreach plans with the scientific community, industry, the public, including Congress, and other stakeholders that incorporates developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with groups and key stakeholders to further organizational goals.
