Job Description:
Develops, implements and updates standard operating procedures to ensure high standards of laboratory animal care. Assists researchers with the development of protocols and acts as an interface with research staff. Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and delegates student workers. Supports effective management of physical resources along with operations management. Please note that this is a temporary position.
Develops, implements and updates standard operating procedures to ensure high standards of laboratory animal care. Assists researchers with the development of protocols and acts as an interface with research staff to ensure basic husbandry and assists with complex specialty technical systems and services. Ensures compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations governing laboratory animal welfare. Ensures adherence to all aspects of approved protocols. Monitors state and federal regulations and establishes procedures and files written reports as required by such regulations.
Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and delegates student workers who will wash cages and pans, feed and water animals, clean floors and dispose of wastes. Serves as Group Coordinator for Trinity's AALAS Learning Library subscription and ensures all animal users are enrolled in an approved training program as required by federal law. Sends and monitors training assignments to all animal users and maintains records. Maintains the AALAS Learning Library training site and adds/removes members as necessary. Controls access to the vivarium as training and forms are completed. Maintains the Animal Care and Resources Center's T-Learn site.
Supports effective management of physical resources along with operations management with responsibilities relating to supply and equipment ordering, inventory and/or invoice reconciliation, recordkeeping and other administrative duties (feed, bedding, cages, equipment, etc.).
Responsible for the operation of restricted and sensitive research areas, and the equipment and specimens therein. Serves as the budget administrator for the department and submit budget proposals as necessary.
Organizes and maintains breeding schedules and colonies. Maintains and updates tag/identification system. Manages the Aztech Lab Animal Management software.
Assists with invasive experimental manipulations.
Serves as the Secretary for the Trinity Safety, Security, and Health Committee. Works as an Administrative Assistant to the Animal Research Committee chairperson, as needed. Authors/updates the Emergency Response/Disaster Plan and Occupational Health and Safety Program, as necessary. Works with Risk Management and Insurance to institute safety and acknowledgement forms and procedures for students working with animals on and off campus.
Assists Biology and Neuroscience faculty and staff with laboratory set up for teaching and research laboratories. Assists faculty from other departments in CSI with minor tasks in their labs, offices or around CSI.
