Are you ready to be a part of a cutting-edge research environment? As a key contributor to our Mouse Core, you'll play a vital role in training new laboratory members and ensuring the seamless operation of our research facility. You'll be hands-on with a variety of animal experimentation and molecular biology techniques, making meaningful contributions to groundbreaking aging research.
From managing and maintaining our mouse colony to organizing biological samples in our advanced mouse cloud database, you'll be at the center of our research efforts. Your work will include specimen labeling, archiving biological samples, ordering essential supplies, and performing molecular biology techniques like immunoblotting and qRT-PCR. You'll also conduct animal necropsies, tissue preservation, and coordinate the shipment of biological samples, all while meticulously tracking healthspan data to support our discoveries.

Essential and other Functions:
50% Animal Experimentation Managing production of experimental animals for the needs of all iBAM members. Coordinate and lead animal tissue dissections for efficient sample collection for experimental needs. Animal husbandry, mouse colony management, collect and record data collected on live animals, mouse necropsies, collection and preservation of biological samples, performs IVIS imaging, dosing mice for drug studies, communicates with RAR veterinary staff concerning animal health cases, facilitates animal transfers, monitors health of experimental animals.
25% Sample and Data Management Sample and Data Management: Using the labâ™s unique colony management database, create animal identifiers and cage cards, prepare necropsy reports and labels for biologic samples, archive samples in the tissue bank and ship biological samples to collaborators, maintain up to date records of culling and anesthesia logs.
10% Cellular and Molecular biology Prepare tissue lysates, isolate RNA and protein, quantitate nucleic acids and protein levels, perform qRT-PCR, PCR genotyping, nucleic acid and protein electrophoresis, prepare and refresh cell culture media. Establishing and maintaining mouse embryonic fibroblasts and culture of neuronal cell lines for functional assays.
15% Supervision: Training new lab staff and on IVIS, mouse colony management, animal husbandry and tissue collection techniques, delegates colony management responsibilities.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Required Qualifications:
BS/BA in a biomedical discipline and 1 year of experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 5 years.
Experience working with mice or similar model organisms.
Mouse colony management or similar experience in managing large, complex projects.
Strong interest in gaining an understanding of DNA damage, DNA repair and genome instability disorders.
Strong ability to work with coworkers, colleagues, and collaborators to reach goals in a timely and efficient manner.
Must have strong problem-solving skills, an ability to multitask and to work independently and as a group.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should have an interest in health sciences and interest in working with laboratory animals.
