OverviewProvide technical assistance for Lab Animal Services; implement animal care procedures following federal and state regulations, and University policy on animal welfare. Monitor environmental conditions including ventilation, temperature and lighting and report changes. Observe and detect changes in behavior, appetite, and signs of illness or pain. Alert supervisor and principal investigator of problems. Animal Techs operate specialized equipment; perform routine maintenance and simple repair of equipment. Must be able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), bend, climb, and stand for prolonged period. Must safely handle and dispose of hazardous material, understand and follow all SOP's, perform animal husbandry duties as assigned. This is an 'essential position.' must be able to work weekends/holidays as scheduled and in addition work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arises.
ResponsibilitiesRequired Education:High School diploma.
Preferred Education:Associate's degree in Animal Science.
Required Experience:1 year of animal care and maintenance experience.
Preferred Experience:Experience in animal research laboratory.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of and ability to operate relevant lab equipment (e.g., cage washer, cage racks and animal racks). Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Certification.
